Hi friends and family!
I'm going to become a runner this spring!
As much as I wish I could get into running on my own, I need a goal and some community. The Broad Street Run seemed like the perfect goal and a great new way to experience this city I've come to love.
Community comes in the form of my soon-to-be running buddies, Nick and Mackenzie! We were first inspired to enter the lottery together for the Cherry Blossom 10-miler in DC. When none of us got in, we thought we'd try our luck at the Broad Street Run. Mackenzie and Nick both won the lottery, but I didn't get picked. In a fortunate turn of events, I'll get to run the race by raising money for an organization that is so important to Philadelphia.
Fairmount Park is Philadelphia's largest park (over 2,000 acres!), spanning both sides of the Schuylkill River. It is home to trails, waterfront, woodlands, and six historic homes. Over my 3.5 years in Philly, I've enjoyed long bike rides through Fairmount Park, as well as a visit to the Halloween Jack-O-Lantern festival with my mom. My favorite event is Parks on Tap - I'm a regular at this traveling beer garden that frequents many of the park's historic homes.
The Fairmount Park Conservancy (FPC) manages not only Fairmount Park, but an additional 200 neighborhood parks throughout the city. FPC is Philadelphia's nonprofit champion for its parks, and I'm excited to continue supporting their work. Please help me get to my goal of $500 by June 1st by making a donation.

This year they are offering donors (you!) the option to opt-in to their membership program which includes great perks (guided hikes, yoga classes, t-shirt, tote bag, etc.) which you can learn about here. Just be sure to opt-in at checkout (via the Donate button to your right)!
