Second Chances is the only program providing free clothing, shoes, accessories, and gift cards to hundreds of homeless and lower-income Somerville and Cambridge residents annually while keeping nearly 200,000 pounds of textiles out of landfills. Second Chances collects donations of clothing, shoes, and accessories at bins located at area businesses and through corporate clothing drives. We partner with local shelters and service providers to help their clients take their first steps toward brighter futures.
Since 2005, we've provide free clothing, shoes, accessories, and gift cards to more than 3,000 people in need in our community and recycled and reused more than 1,250,000 pounds of textiles.
This year, we're working to ensure that Second Chances can continue to be a resource for our community in the future. By moving into our first office outside our founder's home and hiring a staff person to expand our program, we can build the sustainability to serve more people even better in the future.
