November is Stomach Cancer Awareness Month. Please join me in supporting an important cause. I'm raising money for a No Stomach For Cancer Walk and your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate $5 or $500. Every little bit helps. I've included information about the walk below. In June of 2018 I found out that I carry a rare genetic mutation in the CDH1 gene that predisposes me to develop Stomach Cancer (70%-80% risk). There is no good detection for this cancer so in January of this year I underwent a prophylactic total gastrectomy; I had my stomach surgically removed. I am one of four in my family that has had this surgery as a result of this gene. I feel incredibly fortunate to have found this mutation, to have had a successful surgery, and to now be adjusting to a "new normal" without a stomach. There continues to be very little awareness of this gene and of this cancer so we are walking to raise money and awareness. For the second year in a row I am joining forces with Michele Mitchell, a friend and stomach cancer patient in the area, who is one of the bravest most positive people I have met. Last year's walk was a huge success. We raised over $10,000 and had approximately 200 people show up in support to walk with us. We had great food, great music and most of all tons of positive energy to help Michele and I face the year ahead. This year we want to do it again. Please support No Stomach For Cancer through your donations, or even better, join us at the walk. Details: 1:30pm, Sunday November 3rd Hillside High School, Durham, NC. Walk T-Shirts are available to preorder, just contact Michele or me by Oct 21st with quantity and size info. We will have limited supply available for purchase at the walk as well. Thank you for you support.
