Border Angels is a nonprofit based out of San Diego that provides humanitarian assistance to immigrants all along the U.S./Mexico border. Their mission statement from their website states: "Border Angels promotes a culture of love through advocacy, education, by creating a social consciousness, and engaging in direct action to defend the rights of migrants and refugees."
Among other services, they organize desert water drops and day laborer outreach, support shelters in Tijuana via donations for food and bills, create education and advocacy about issues facing the community, and provide free legal consultation. They are literally saving lives with this work, and that is why we have decided to raise money for them on our thru-hike of the San Diego Trans County Trail this February.
We will be following this 158 mile route from the Salton Sea to the Pacific Ocean, along desert washes, paved roads and everything in between. We'll be selling a zine of our writing and art from the trip, with all the proceeds going to the Border Angels.
Check out their site for more information about the work they're doing and how to volunteer!
