Hi we are Luna and Lily. Our favorite social media celebrity is "Mona Pants" who LOVES to scrounge, which is where our name Scrounging for a Cure came from! You may not know us, but you have seen our photos on Facebook that my mama posts! She likes to post silly photos of us all the time. You know what time of year it is? It’s fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) time! This year is a little different! This year WE (Luna and Lily) are running for Dog of the Year! Did you know that Lymphoma is one of the most common forms of cancer in canines? Sadly, without treatment most older dogs with lymphoma only live for a few months. Mom just told us about a sweet dog Kioti with the Carolina Boxer Rescue who just passed over the Rainbow Bridge because he had Lymphoma. Luckily for dogs like me, the outlook for blood cancer in canines (and our humans) is looking promising.
The funds we raise are needed to help find better treatments and cures for blood cancers so patients can live better, longer lives. When you support LLS, you not only advance the most pioneering cancer research of our time, you accelerate promising treatments that save lives. Will you support me and our efforts to helping to cure cancer?
LLS is on a quest to cure blood cancer, including lymphoma-the disease that took my friend Kioti. We are writing today to ask for your help. We will be competing for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Dog of the Year title this summer. Together with some fellow pups from the neighborhood, we’ve assembled a pack called “Scrounging for a Cure”. We got the name from our favorite icon; Mona Pants and the Mona Pants Foundation. Starting on July 29th we will have 4 weeks to raise as much money as we can for the fight against cancer. If Scrounging for a Cure raises the most funds during the competition, LLS will name US as its Dog of the Year…can you believe that?
As you may also know, our grandpa was diagnosed in 2009 with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), subtype M3 Actute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL). He spent about 3 months in the hospital receiving platelets and treatment. We are happy to say that he is still in remission today! We are so happy that grandpa is still with us today! We love getting pets from him, even though he’s allergic to us!
Also our cousins (Michelle, Joe and Billy) lost their father Bill Tonio in 2005 to Leukemia. We need to keep fundraising so that we do not keep losing the ones closest to us. LLS is making HUGE strides in cancer research and therapies. Research breakthroughs in blood cancer treatments are occurring at an ever-increasing rate; in 2017 and 2018 alone saw 39 new U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approvals for blood cancers, and LLS supported 34 of them.
If you would like to support our campaign, you can do so by visiting our fundraising page and making a donation. Donate Today! #Dogs4LLS
Our goal is to raise at least $1,500 this year! I challenge YOU to donate at least $25! We are mailing this letter out to 100+ people. If every person donated $25 we would surpass our fundraising goal by $1,000! Together we can help find a cure for cancer! Plus we want to beat mama’s total from last year and she raised $1,500!
The campaign unites doggie advocates from across the country and moves us closer to our common vision: A world where dogs and our human parents don’t get cancer. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I will not stop barking until we find cures!
Thank you,
