Hi my sweet book club chicadees,
As a group, we read A Long Walk to Water and through our reading and our discussion at book club, along with the videos that we watched, I know we all realized how very blessed we are to be living the life that we live. Hearing Salva & Nya's story shed light on the struggles and hardships that they both endured in their home country of Sudan. Their stories have inspired us to want to do something to help others.
Milagros Cruz works for the International Rescue Committee and is in charge of the NY/NJ area. She informed me that presently there are refugee families here from Syria, many of the families have young kids, just like you. The kids are in need of school uniforms so that they can attend school. Each uniform costs about $100, which is difficult for these families to afford.
I told Ms. Cruz, that our book club, would like to donate money to this cause, and she was thrilled. I told her that your parents aren't just giving you money, but that you have been working very hard to earn it by doing chores and helping your parents in any way that you can. She was very impressed by this and is looking forward to hearing all of the amazing ways you have all helped raise money.
So, thank you my chicadees - thank you for being part of this cause, thank you for making book club the one thing I look forward to all year long, thank you for inspiring your parents and I to do this - and most of all, thank you for always being such kind and amazing kids.
Love,
Milloni aunty
