Hi y’all and welcome to our team page!
My name is Jessica Suedbeck and I’ll be the team captain for the Scholarly Striders. I am so grateful to lead the charge in raising money to give back to the American Dental Hygienists' Association's Institute for Oral Health (ADHA IOH)! The ADHA IOH gives over $150,000 PER YEAR to advance the profession of dental hygiene through scholarship, research, and service by providing educational scholarships, research grants, and community service grants.
I am one of the many lucky dental hygienists who have benefited from this over the years. Starting as a graduate student , I received an IOH educational scholarship to continue my studies in the MSDH program at Old Dominion University where I first began my journey as a dental hygiene researcher and educator. Shortly after starting my master’s degree, my thesis director mentored me through the grant writing process and my thesis research was awarded an IOH Research Grant! Over the years, I’ve continued growing as an educator and researcher and I am now an Assistant Professor at ODU. In 2019, I was awarded my first ADHA IOH Research Grant as a principal investigator for the research study, Effects of Instrument Handle Design on Forearm Muscle Activity and Pinch Force Generation During Scaling by Dental Hygienists. Without the generous efforts of the ADHA IOH, I would not be able to conduct valuable research in the area of ergonomics to find ways in preventing musculoskeletal disorders in dental hygienists. THANK YOU ADHA INSTITUTE FOR ORAL HEALTH!
JOIN US in giving back to the ADHA Institute for Oral Health by joining the team, sharing the link with your colleagues, family, and friends, and raising awareness about our challenge! We will be raising money for the ADHA IOH through the ADHA 97th Annual Conference, June 11-June 14th (Noon CST). You can join the effort whether you are attending the conference or not and we are so lucky to have you!
Thank you for your support,
