My name is Alexandra Cohen and I am a high school Student-Athlete.
Student-Athletes with aspirations for college recruitment require one thing: EXPOSURE. And more often than not, that exposure comes at a price. College recruiting camps are a great opportunity for exposure to a school, it's athletic programs and their coaches, but they can cost hundreds of dollars to attend, not including travel expenses and incidentals. I would like to help the Student-Athletes who don't readily have the funds to attend these essential sports camps. Every Student-Athlete should have the equal opportunity to exposure no matter what his or her financial situation.
The Happy Camper Foundation has helped more than 300 kids attend enriching summer camp programs of their choice over the past 9 years. I am spearheading the first effort to earmark special funds for Student-Athletes beginning the recruiting process. There are many costs associated with this process, and the competition is getting tighter and tighter. Attending multiple college sports summer camps starting as early as 7th and 8th grade is becoming not only normal, but NECESSARY, and not everyone can afford these trips.
It is my hope that by helping Happy Camper raise funds directed specifically toward Student-Athletes, I can help more kids cover college sports camp registration and travel costs so they have a chance to earn athletic scholarships.
