The New Orleans Brass Band tradition has influenced nearly all genres of music including traditional and modern jazz, rock, country, funk and hip-hop. The sound is built entirely of brass instruments: ensembles include brass, woodwind instruments and a percussion section. Brass band music is often referred to as music of the streets and the music of the people. It speaks to the diverse cultural roots of New Orleans and can be heard at second lines, weddings and festivals. Brass band music is passionate, vibrant, exciting and it speaks to the soul and makes everyone move their feet.
The New Orleans Original Brass Festival was founded to celebrate the culture and legacy of New Orleans music and its people. It is the first of many events to fund the Non-Profit Organization “Save Our Brass Culture Foundation” which was created to give opportunities for elder and retired local musicians a way to provide income for their families. Save Our Brass Foundation will provide teaching and mentor jobs in the Brass Music community (schools, local jails, and churches). This organization was created by musicians and for musicians.
We need your support to help continue the work of Save Our Brass Culture Foundation.
