Due to COVID-19, zoos all over the world are seriously struggling. Without intervention to rally behind them with full support, their plight will continue, and what will become of these animals? They don’t have anywhere else to go since all zoos are enduring the same hardship; therefore, it’s time to band together to take action as a community to #SaveTheZoo!
Gladys Porter Zoo is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) zoo that has been open for nearly 50 years. It serves as a landmark for Brownsville, Texas. As the only Zoo in the Rio Grande Valley, it is the only place where anyone south of San Antonio can view some beautiful, amazing animals they may never get to see otherwise. The Zoo educates multitudes of families and school children every year. The Gladys Porter Zoo has worked diligently towards animal conservation efforts, working to save multiple endangered species from the brink of extinction by preserving populations in zoos like the Gladys Porter Zoo and reintroducing endangered animals back into the wild. It also serves as the largest wildlife rehabilitation center in South Texas, rehabbing hundreds injured native wildlife a year.
With a passionate, dedicated team of professionals at the top of their fields, Gladys Porter Zoo prioritizes the animals above all else. The amazing staff works to keep the animals healthy and happy with custom habitats, enrichment activities, and personalized medical attention. This is apparent in every aspect with just one visit. The animals are active, playful, and full of life. This is a staple of what zoos should be, and why zoos are important for not only the education to the public and youth, but to the survival of the animals themselves.
It is time for us to take a stand and fight together to keep Gladys Porter Zoo alive! Businesses all over the world have struggled during the pandemic, and while Gladys Porter Zoo is doing its best to stay afloat, its goal has always been taking care of animals over bringing in big profits. Animals are hungry and demanding! While many businesses can cut back on employee expenses by cutting hours, all of the animals who require constant care and attention aren’t as flexible. The Zoo has food, medical care, and enrichment to provide, day or night, rain or shine, pandemic or otherwise.
We are launching this campaign all across social media, with YouTubers and celebrities all over Texas to join forces and help keep Gladys Porter alive. Youtubers like Brianna, ParkerGames, and Hyper have all agreed to show their audience the wonders of the Gladys Porter Zoo and the impact it brings to the world. With a combined audience of over 10 million online followers, we are getting the word out.
If you’re still reading, it means you care. That’s what it takes to make a difference! By joining our campaign and sharing the #SaveTheZoo hashtag, we can truly save the Gladys Porter Zoo.
