Our beloved music program and chorus - the Music Discovery Partnership and the Young People’s Chorus @ Thurnauer - needs your help!
Despite so much appreciation and support for our work, the constraints on the Englewood Public School budget mean that funding for the MDP program and chorus was eliminated. We must make up this funding, so we can continue the MDP program next year.
The Young People’s Chorus @ Thurnauer is an Award-Winning program, winning multiple First Place awards at local and regional competitions. For two years in a row we have won Best Overall Chorus at the Music in the Parks competition. In May 2018, the chorus had its debut performance at Carnegie Hall and on June 8 will sing with American Young Voices.
The Music Discovery Partnership (MDP) between the JCC Thurnauer School of Music and the Englewood Public School District (EPSD) has been in existence for over 20 years. It has reached over 2,000 children with array of music programs from instrumental instruction to choral performance. The Young People’s Chorus @ Thurnauer, a main component of MDP, fills children with joy and provides a high-level of music education. Participation in the YPC @ Thurnauer teaches children to organize, think critically, learn about different cultures, and be part of a team.
Our choristers work hard in rehearsals. They learn to stand proudly on stage, sing with musicality and good vocal technique. The choristers think of themselves as "Young Artists" - growing musicians capable of creating beauty and sharing it with others.
As many of you know, our Young People’s Chorus is the only affiliate of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City. Together we share mission of providing children of all cultural and economic backgrounds with a unique program of music education and choral performance. Our choral programs are a model of artistic excellence celebrating diversity and enriching our communities. Our goal is to help each child fulfill their potential.

My story: My son loves to sing but gets nervous to sing in front of others. MDP has taught him to trust himself. He thought he couldn't go on the stage at Carnegie Hall, yet he was able to work through his anxiety with the help of his peers and perform onstage! This program has given him confidence in himself and made him feel so strong.
