The Berrien Artist Guild has owned the 3 story, 55,000 sq. ft. Box Factory building at 1101 Broad Street in St. Joseph, Michigan for almost 25 years! Its an incredible creative space only blocks from downtown.
In addition to providing studio space for over 40 artists, this year we have hosted 10 exhibitions with 23 featured regional artists and over 500 artists in group shows, including the regional elementary and high school student shows. You can enroll in one of our dozens of art classes, as we are partnering with Kendall School of Design of Grand Rapids as their regional classroom space. Classes offered range from learning Adobe Illustrator to fashion design, and we even offer an open Portrait Studio!
This year we have brought you 35 Open Mic and Unwrapped nights, which allow emerging artists and seasoned bands to connect with community in an intimate venue. We have a great stage complete with grand piano!
We also hosted 5 Children's Film Festival days, two plays and two "Maker's Markets" where local artisans sell their creations all inside our building!
Because of the Box Factory for the Arts, our resident artists have a place to create, convene and connect with our community. While we have grown in membership, identity, quality of exhibitions and performances, we continue to need your help to maintain our aging building and to keep this artist venue alive in our community!
We have been offered $15,000 by the family of the late V. Jean Gast, to enable us to continue hosting these great events into 2020, with stipulation that members of the community must raise the funds to match the $15,000 gift.
