What if you had Nowhere To Go?
For years One Safe Place has served the needs of our local domestic violence victims. Men, women and children who suffer unspeakable violence and assault who would otherwise have no place to go. One Safe Place is in dire need of your support right now and without it, could be faced with reducing its life saving services, leaving these children and victims without the critical resources they need.
One Safe Place has seen a dramatic increase in domestic violence victims needing support and services in the last couple months. Shasta County has one of the highest rates of domestic violence and those numbers are on the rise due to the pandemic. There has been a 40% increase in calls to the Crisis Hotline and a 27% increase in visits for service compared to last year. There has been a rise in domestic violence homicides across the country and our community has not been immune as recent deaths have shown us. It is not just an increase in the number of cases that is concerning, the brutality has increased as well with more potential for homicides.
Add a national pandemic, shelter-in-place orders, economic recession and record stress levels and we have the perfect storm. Increased domestic violence and violence against children coupled with record low donations and cancelled fundraising events have left the agency in a position that is not sustainable.
What if it was you, your child, your daughter, your friend? What if they were the victims of abuse and sexual assault and didn't have access to every critical resource One Safe Place offers? They need these services to recover and start on the path to a new beginning. Please help One Safe Place continue to offer these life-changing services to the victims in our community.
