The future of this unique variety festival is at stake. We have come a long way together and we want to keep going together because we believe you love this festival as much as we do. We truly need your help at this crucial time.
The COVID-19 virus has struck a very serious blow to the 17-year-old Seattle Moisture Festival. For the well-being of the community, the Board of Directors and producers decided quickly and responsibly to postpone the festival that would have occurred March 12 – April 5, a decision validated a week later when local governments banned public gatherings to reduce risk of transmission.
Preparations for the 2020 Seattle Moisture Festival began more than five months ago. The loss of ticket revenue and donations that we normally receive during the festival is financially devastating. At a second emergency meeting on March 10, the board determined that to keep our non-profit organization functional, to pay for expenses already incurred and to provide start-up funds to prepare for the next festival we need to raise a minimum of $120,000.
This is going to take all of us working together, donating what we can and sharing our campaign with as many people as we can. Because we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, all donations are tax deductible.
We are reaching out to every artist who has ever performed in the festival, asking them to share our campaign with their networks. We are also reaching out to every volunteer, to every audience member who has ever purchased a ticket, every sponsor who has helped along the way and every generous past Super Star supporter.
Please help us reach our goal of raising $120,000. March 12 was scheduled to be our opening night and we would have presented thirty-five shows at Hale’s Palladium plus lectures and workshops and five Libertease Burlesque shows at Broadway Performance Hall. We want to make sure we can present these shows in the future. We cannot imagine a world without the comedy/varieté we have created together.
Thank you for everything you have done and continue to do for the world’s largest and longest running Comedy/Varieté festival! A special thanks to those who have already donated via our website! Laughter reigns. We love you!
Please help us keep the festival alive by:
1) Sharing this campaign far and wide via email, Facebook, and your other channels.
2) If you prefer, you can also make a donation on our website.
All donations are tax deductible. Tax I.D. 20-3366934
We should all take pride in this festival’s accomplishments. We have created a successful artists’ cooperative to highlight the magic and importance of the variety arts. Many of the industry’s top variety acts have performed here in Seattle for the festival. For 16 years we have successfully presented a month-long festival by building a network of invaluable, dedicated volunteers. We have delighted our audiences with shows that bring joy and amazement to the community. We have followed the guidance of our mission statement and managed to keep our ticket prices low so that families can afford to attend the performances. We have respected our supporters, our donors and sponsors by responsibly managing our finances and conforming with federal, state and city requirements so that our finances remain in order. We have avoided going in to debt and we have compensated the artists, musicians and tech crew through a unique system that treats all performers equally, because we are all in this together!
In the words of Charlie Chaplin:
“…Light up your face with gladness, hide every trace of sadness, although a tear may be ever so near, that's the time you must keep on trying, Smile, what's the use of crying? You'll find that life is still worthwhile, if you just smile”
