Hi! I am Leon Fontier, the founder of HTSCongo, a US based 501 (c) (3), we are a non-profit that is passionate about improving access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, one of the poorest countries on earth and the country where I was born.
Thanks to people like you, many Congolese men, women and children are now drinking safe water, avoiding deadly waterborne diseases. Each new school or health clinic that has established proper sanitation facilities and hand washing stations fills my heart with immense pride. Together with your help, the work of HTSCongo has benefited thousands of people.
I am asking you for your increased support to help us reach even more people. HTSCongo has set a fund raising goal of $18,300 to help us fund a new chapter in the Congo.
New for 2019: We have created a partner non-profit organization in the Democratic Republic of Congo,“Technologies Appropriées pour le Congo” (TAC Asbl), in order to give us a permanent foothold and presence in the country of DR Congo.
$18,300, will allow TAC to be equipped with the tools to drill wells, to bid on jobs and to operate effectively for the year.
TAC is operating in a country that is among the poorest in the world,
Will you help with a year-end tax deductible gift of $50 or what you can, to help us reach our goal?
You support of TAC would dramatically increases our ability to reach new communities with our services and offer continued support to past recipients

Want to know more about who we are?
In 2010,I took my family to my birth country, the Democratic Republic of Congo. I was struck by the extreme poverty, especially in rural villages. This inspired me to create a non-profit organization that would work to help directly in DR Congo. So often non-profits come in and build the infrastructure, but we aimed to train on-site staff to build and maintain clean water as a sustainable solutions.
In 2012, Habitat Technologies Solutions for the Congo (HTSCongo) was created.
Alongside my Board of Directors (all volunteers), I immediately went to work spreading the word about the dire situation in the Congo and began raising funds. Our big break came in 2015 when Rotary International awarded HTSCongo our first Foundation grant. This funding allowed us to demonstrate our efficacy in implementing and managing projects in the Democratic republic of Congo.
Our Recent Accomplishments
Our trained teams have produced:
-40 clean water wells
-8 latrines for both the public and the private sector
-7 Ferro-cement water tanks up to 15m
-3 placenta pits (for maternity/health clinics)
-3 medical waste incinerators (for maternity/health clinics)
-4 hand washing stations (for schools)
-4 complete rainwater harvesting schemes (for schools)
Our goal is to
Engage with rural communities to fight the water and sanitation crisis in DR Congo.
Working side by side, learning from each other, respectfully, we bridge cultures while we:
-Build local capacity in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector with the appropriate technology, skills and resources communities need to create a healthy environment for themselves
-Transfer skills and knowledge to the rural villages and help implement solutions to the widespread crisis of waterborne diseases due to environmental contamination due to the lack of proper sanitation facilities and drinking unsafe water from rivers and swamps
-Promote better hygiene behaviors, such as washing hands and giving up open defecation
-Manage projects from start to finish, staying as long as necessary to ensure the project's efficiency and sustainability.
At the end of a project, we strive to leave a community empowered with the technology, skills and knowledge they need to create a healthy environment for themselves that is sustainable.
