My name is Hopper and I am only 9 months old. I’m not feeling so well right now so I’m currently being cared for at an animal hospital. Even though everyone here is being really nice to me, they keep using scary words like amputation and bacterial infection when talking about my broken leg. I don’t know entirely what amputation means, but I understood someone say that I’ll die if I don’t get it! The people that I used to live with didn’t take good care of me. One day they decided they didn’t like me, and sat me out like trash. I had to fend for myself and I was hit by a car. It hurt so bad. The nice vet someone took me to said I broke my leg and needed a cast. I also had these scratches and sores all over called road rash. I was in rough shape when the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society came to get me. I waited for days for my other family to find me and take me home to heal, but they never came. Even though GMHS is taking good care of me, I don’t think my leg is healing right, and I’m scared. It just aches and aches, I feel really hot, and I can’t eat without getting pukey. That must be that bacterial infection the nice folks at the shelter keep talking about. I know they said it’ll cost a lot of money, but they want me to have this amputation cause the infection is spreading pretty fast. They don’t want me to die, but to be honest I’m scared they won’t find the money. They said there are tons of other really nice people out there that want to help me! I know from the bad things that happened before that people aren’t always nice so I’m not sure if I believe them yet. Will you show me that people are nice and save my life?
