In 2016 the Prince William County Police Department purchased a 2016 BMW R1200 RT-P . The motorcycle was given the vehicle fleet identification number of CP4038. Over the course of several months, each member of the Traffic Unit was given the opportunity to ride CP4038 for testing and evaluation. After the initial T&E the motor was assigned MPO Robert Minnick. In addition to using the motorcycle for patrol, traffic enforcement and escort duties; MPO Minnick competed in three Mid Atlantic Police Motorcycle Skills Competition events which resulted in several awards.
CP4038 has exceeded the mileage allotted for service and is scheduled to be auctioned to the public. In an effort to preserve our history, the Prince William County Police Historical Society, a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt organization, wishes to purchase CP4038 and display it as a part of our historical exhibits. CP4038 will complement CP80, a 1970 Harley Davidson motorcycle which is currently on display at the Central District Station.
