In the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic,
A bar/venue owner in NC foresaw the impact the shutdowns would have on the livelihoods of service industry workers across the state. This man knew that it would take months for unemployment benefits to kick in, and even worse, some would not receive any benefits at all. So, out of this apparent need, Nick Stroud launched a GoFundMe campaign with the idea to raise and distribute aid to those in need over the course of the pandemic.
That fledgling campaign raised over $55,000 for service industry workers in NC. Those who were approved received either $100 or $500 stipends depending on their needs. Additionally, after seeing the outcome of his hard work, Nick decided to make the leap and form a non-profit organization, Service Indsutry Workers Advocates of NC (SIWANC), which recently received 501(c)(3) charitable status.
So, we are back at it again! Let's raise a little money this Christmas for those who are still in dire need of help. Let's make sure their children don't wake up with any presents under their trees. Let's help families bridge the gap to the end of this pandemic.
Please donate what you can - a "tip" you would have left for a server at your favorite restaurant or bar this holiday season. We will make sure that it gets to a service industry worker in need this season.
AT THIS TIME, OUR INQUIRIES FOR AID APPLICATIONS HAVE FAR OUTPACED OUR DONATIONS. AS A RESULT, WE ARE NOT TAKING ANY NEW APPLACANTS AT THIS TIME. EVEN IF WE MEET OUR FUNDRAISING GOAL, WE HAVE ALREADY REACHED THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF POTENTIAL APPLICANTS. THANKS FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING.
All donations are tax-deductible. GoFundMe will provide you with a tax reciept.
