Too many veterans, active-duty military members, and first responders are taking their own lives. According to a study performed by the Department of Veterans Affairs in 2014 and revised in 2016, twenty (20) veterans and one (1) active-duty military member are lost to suicide every day. In 2017, the Ruderman Foundation also performed a study and discovered that more first-responders died by their own hand than in the line-of duty. This data is shocking, but the reality is truly heart-breaking.
Please join Save A Warrior in supporting these heroes and heroines in the fight for their lives.
Save A Warrior offers a free five-and-a-half-day Integrated Intensive Retreat (IIR) program for veterans, active-duty military members, and first responders suffering from post-traumatic stress, suicidal ideations, and depression. Our program immerses warriors from all over the country in various healing opportunities: processing of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and war/lin-of duty trauma; equine therapy; challenging high-ropes courses; Warrior Meditation; post-traumatic stress education; ceremony for the dead; reflective labyrinth walks; and servant leadership. Once the warriors complete the week long program, they work closely with the Director of Alumni Affairs to ensure that they have access to the resources necessary to continue their personal healing journey for themselves and also their families.
Save A Warrior has served more than 700 warriors since commencing this transformative program in 2012. This year alone, SAW will provide more than 300 participants with an opportunity to change the trajectory of their lives. SAW helps these heroic men and women re-engage with their loved ones, communities and jobs by providing them with the coping mechanisms necessary to succeed and overcome their personal struggles. It is the least we can do for those who continually put their lives at risk to save ours.
Your donation will help off-set the expenses associated with providing the SAW experience to ten (10) warriors this year. Here is a breakdown of what your generosity can provide to the Save A Warrior participants:
- Just Save One Scholarship: $3,500/warrior
- Equine Assisted Therapy: $1,300/cohort or $130/warrior
- Challenging Ropes Course: $600/cohort or $60/warrior
- Cohort snacks/supplies: $250/cohort or $25/warrior
