Two years ago, Hurricane Maria, a category 5 hurricane, devastated Puerto Rico forcing many people to leave the island. Most were unable to bring their pets, so they were set loose on the streets, un-spayed and un-neutered causing a record high of stray dogs having litters of puppies. There is now an estimated 300,000 stray dog population. Just to give you an idea, Puerto Rico is only the size of Connecticut. These poor animals are starving, craving love, suffering alone. Many are hit by cars or poisoned. They die of malnutrition, starvation and disease. These animals deserve better and Save the Satos wants to give it to them.
We are headed back to Puerto Rico in November to volunteer in the Spayathon and while we are there, we plan to rescue 40+ dogs. But we need your help! These are just some of the costs it takes to get a dog from Puerto to New Jersey.
$10 –Boarding per day per dog for in Puerto Rico as the dogs await flight to New Jersey
$50 – Travel Crate
$150 – If dogs fly straight from Puerto Rico to New Jersey per crate
$93 – Cost of flying one crate from San Juan Puerto Rico to Miami Florida
$900 – 1 rental van and gas to transport dogs from FL to NJ (only transports 8 crates), so we need 4 vans. $900 x 4 = $3,600.
$125 - Spay/neuter surgery for one dog
$75 – Vaccines, heart worm test and microchip
Please donate to help us reach our goal of $5,000. Any amount helps and if you can not donate, please share and spread the word.
