Hunger in the lower Westchester and the Bronx is at record levels. Westchester County’s food insecure individuals have increased tenfold as a result of the economic downturn in the region. The Bronx, which is the poorest county in the city has a 18.8% unemployment rate and families needing assistance have increased exponentionally.
The closure of restaurants due to COVID-19 has negatively impacted restaurant owners who could not switch their operations to take out. Additionally, many were not eligible or did not qualify for small business relief.
We have contacted restaurants and small food vendors who have been impacted to prepare for a flat fee, Holiday meals for needy families. Families would receive a hot meal in November and December.
