The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is a wonderful organization that honors our military and first responders. It is named after Stephen Siller, a 34 year old firefighter who died on September 11, 2001. He was off duty at the time but when he heard the news of the plane hitting the North Tower, he drove to the entrance of the Battery Park Tunnel, which had already been closed off for security purposes. He strapped 60 lbs of gear to his back and ran through the tunnel to the towers, where he gave his life while saving others. The Tunnel to Towers organization helps build smart homes for veterans who are severly wounded overseas, and it also takes on the responsibility of paying off mortgages for the families of first responders who have lost their lives In the line of duty.
