What is this thing? COVID-19? The virus that has affected ALL of us and has changed everything! It has closed businesses, schools and parks, cancelled all events and happenings, and has created havoc within our families.
For us, Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center (SPARC) it has created an unprecedented financial need. We have continued to honor our life-saving mission for animals during the total disruption caused by this pandemic. We continue to receive animals who are lost from their homes and we make every effort, as we always have, to find their people. And now, more than ever before our neighbors are turning to us for assistance and support. Many of them need financial assistance with their pets’ veterinary and medical needs. We are providing pet food for our friends who cannot afford it at this time. And sadly, some of our neighbors can no longer afford to keep their beloved pets because of a serious loss of income, or even the loss of their own home. Our hearts break for these people in our city as we find new homes for their precious pets!
Our non-profit SPARC Thrift Store in mid-town Ventura had to shut down because it was deemed a nonessential business. Because of this we have lost the $25,000.00 (on average) per month income that this store generates for us. However, we still must pay the $10,000.00 per month rent on the building and all the other associated bills for the space. The Rescue Center in Santa Paula also must pay rent, utilities, salaries and all our other bills to stay open for our community. At the shelter we have experienced a more than 50% decrease in revenues along with a steep increase in veterinary costs to assist our neighbors. As an essential business, our staff continues to work hard for the community and the animals. However, as our costs rise, and our revenue stream has been drastically diminished, SPARC is in crisis. As a no-kill, non-profit organization, we rely on donations from our friends and neighbors to continue to provide services to our community. During this difficult time for all of us, we are relying on the kindness and generosity of our friends and neighbors to continue our business - people just like YOU!
Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center (SPARC) today. We know everyone is experiencing financial hardships right now, but if you can help us, we can use your financial support now more than ever before to continue to serve our city until we can all get back on track. Thank you for your support and for giving!
