After operating our Greyhound adoption program for 10 years, in 2013, we created a Sanctuary for the special needs and senior Sighthounds and horses in our care. Those animals who, in all likelihood, would never be adopted because of their advanced age or their extreme medical or behavioral issues. And for those younger animals with treatable medical or behavioral issues who, once cured or corrected, could ultimately be adopted into carefully selected homes.
We currently support 16 Retired Racing Greyhounds, 2 Podencos from Spain, and 3 horses in our Sanctuary, Some of these animals are blind or deaf, were abused or neglected, have heart conditions, are lame or just very, very old. In April, we are expecting to bring in 2 more Podencos from Spain that had suffered badly broken legs.
As a non-profit, tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code, our sole source of funding is through grants and private donations, all of which pay for the health and wellbeing of our animals and for the general maintenance and upkeep of the Sanctuary itself.
We normally hold 2 to 3 meet and greet/fundraising events at various locations in our area every week. This money is used for food, medicine, and day-to-day expenses of the Sanctaury animals. However, one of our caretakers was injured and required surgery and a long recuperation time. She cannot walk yet, and we are not able to hold these events for the next few months. The animals are being well-cared for, thanks, in part, to the staff at Madison Veterinary Hospital volunteering their time. However, we need to raise funds to cover the expenses for the animals we will incure during this time. (The caretaker will be fine and all of the human medical bills will be covered by insurance.)
Please, Please, help us to continue to provide the high quality of care to the Senior and Special Needs Ones. Your donation will mean so much!
