Sanctuary Forest is faced with a one-time opportunity to permanently protect the entire Van Arken Creek watershed and adjoining headwaters of McKee, Green & Ravashoni Creeks from the threat of subdivision, development, and negative land use impacts of large-scale cannabis cultivation. This project will place over 1,600 acres of pristine and/or recovering forestland and ~5.8 miles of fish-bearing stream channel under conservation ownership and stewardship by Sanctuary Forest. Our goal is to create a community forest resulting in a combination of old growth forest, wildlife reserves and working forestlands; providing vital ecosystem services, education and recreation opportunities, as well as a source of economic growth for our local community.
As environmental protections increasingly come under attack, the quest to Save Van Arken and the Fund An Acre Campaign offers a real opportunity to roll up your sleeves, step in, and do your part to protect open spaces.
