We just learned that a lieutenant in the San Jose Police Department lost his home in the Santa Cruz Mountains this afternoon as a result of the CZU Lightning Complex fires. At least eight additional officers who also live in the area are under emergency evacuation. Additional homes owned by police officers are at risk in the east foothills of San Jose and in Morgan Hill.
We are launching this campaign to raise funds to support the lieutenant, his wife and children, who lost their home today, and to assist officers who are under evacuation and seeking shelter at hotels.
The San Jose Police Department has already been challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic which has infected several officers and their families, and are now facing this extraordinary challenge.
We are asking community members who are safe and financially able to make a contribution to support the officers in need. All funds raised will be used for members of the San Jose Police Department who have lost their homes and/or have been displaced due to fires. Donations will be used for the following:
Socks and underwear
School supplies for school-age children
Diapers, bottles and related items for babies
We will provide regular updates on the affect lieutenant and members of the San Jose Police Department whose homes are at risk.
Thank you in advance for your support.
