This sumer is the 30th Anniversary of The France vs. Southern California Junior Golf Team Matches. 500 participants ranging in age from 12-18, from 20 golf clubs on each side played in qualifyers to compete. Each team was eventually composed of 8 boys and 4 girls. The Southern California team was coached by Jerry Herrera, which produced a few PGA Champions, with one reaching supreme world recognition, Tiger Woods. 30 years later, Coach Jerry Herera and his non-profit golf program, San Gabriel Junior Golf, will once again travel to France and compete. This time we are taking 24 AMAZING juniors!! Our team will consist of 12 boys and 12 girls with the opportunity to play at 4 different courses, be guests at the French Open, tour and experience France on our off days.
Our non-profit, San Gabriel Junior Golf, has been given the opportunity of a lifetime to play and compete in France. We are determined through sponsorships and fundraising to do our best to cover all travel expenses for ALL 24 kids traveling to compete.
A little background on our organization, we are a small non-profit program that is held every Tuesday from 5-7pm at our local public golf course, Rancho Duarte. We hold lessons and offer tutoring to local children for $2. The average attendance every week is between 40-60 kids ranging from 6-18 years of age. San Gabriel Junior Golf provides youth with the opportunity to learn a game of a lifetime and develop life long skills and friendships that will help and nurture self esteem and confidence. SGJG will also foster a sense of belonging, competitive influence and usefulness. Our purpose is to keep youth active and away from negative influences. Our program has been running since January 2007 and continues to grow!
