On June 1st I will be making the trip to Oakland to participate in a deadlift only event. The purpose of Pull for Pride across North America is to bring together a supportive community to raise funds that will benefit select organizations that provide direct support to LGBTQ. In Oakland's case, we are fundraising and lifting in support of Trans Lifeline.
While the Civil Rights of the LGBTQ has come far over the last decade, in today's political climate trans lives are still under attack. You see these attacks occur daily in competitive sports, job opportunities and medical benefits. Tran Lifeline is a nonprofit organization who sole's purpose is improve the quality of Trans life.
As someone who grew up in a liberal supportive community of Philadelphia and then moved to an equally supportive city in San Diego where I could easily embrace who I am, I am aware that I am lucky and fortunate. Specifically, as a white queer CIS woman, I know I have the privilege of blending in and going through societal norms unscathed.
This is why I like to seize this Pull for Pride opportunity. This will be my second year participating. I see it as a way to combine my love for fitness, queer rights and leverage my supportive community to really help make a difference. I hope to raise a dollar for every intended pound I plan to lift. I get three attempts at the deadlift and I have been training!
Any small amount helps, and I am here to answer any questions or concerns. Feel free to reach out and check out the links below for more information.
