I want to tell you that our grandson will celebrate his 12th birthday later this year. Like all message12-year old’s, he has his moments!!!! However, in general, this is a boy that lights up lives with smiles and happiness. The past year has been difficult for all of us. 2021 is allowing us to have our annual Walk N Roll face to face. Very exciting .
Spina Bifida is the #1 birth defect in the world with no main cause, it can be hereditary however in most cases the cause is unknown. Every year over 1600 babies are born with Spina Bifida, approximately 7 in every 10,000 births.
The Mission of the Spina Bifida Association of Colorado is to build a better and brighter future for all those affected by Spina Bifida. We pursue our Mission by educating the public about the latest research on prevention, ex. the intake of folic acid before and during pregnancy. For those individuals and families already affected we bring them together through multiple activities to see they are not alone in there fight, that we are a community. We have individuals in their 70's and younger living with Spina Bifida, we can learn from each other how to get through the different stages of life. We learn how to prevent common medical issues, how to get through school with common learning conditions, how to pursue higher education, job, relationships etc.
Donations are our need for survival. Last year we did run a donation campaign and then the world changed pace. We all, especially non-profit organizations such as ourselves, had to make life better for as many as we could, and did through Community Grants, Holiday celebration gifts, zoom educational series, coffee chats, and Happy Hours. It was not easy but as we all know, we surprised ourselves on what is possible. This year, 2021, we have some ground to make up. Our new tasks will continue and some of our older events can now resurface, and without question, our need to Fundraise is paramount to keep our work going in our community.
Join us and support Spina Bifida Association of Colorado to educate the world about Spina Bifida and to enhance the lives of people in our community by bringing them together.
