Here's our Story!
With one of the most visible and vocal teams at the Pell Bridge Run, the funds raised by and on behalf of Team SamaritansRI supports our suicide prevention education, grief support and community outreach programs. 100% of all donations to The Samaritans of RI benefits our local charity!
We are more than our signs on the bridges - we are dedicated Rhode Islanders helping Rhode Islanders!
Caring. Remembrance. Dedication. Innovation. Creativity.
The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged all of us in ways we never would have imagined. But throughout the past two years, our board, staff and volunteers never doubted our dedication to suicide prevention and we found creative solutions to meet the obstacles the pandemic presented.
This 9th Annual "Cross the Bridge to Hope" represents the unwaivering support of more than 1,673 alumni and current volunteers who, since 1977, have dedicated themselves to befriending those who feel isolated and alone. We have answered calls from the hopeless, alone, suicidal, the grieving and caregivers as well as those impacted by the pandemic. Some of callers are deperately alone and have depended on SAMSRI every day since we first opened. Some call just to say good night - believing no one else cares. We often hear - "What would I do without The Samaritans."
A Salute to our 2021 Team "Grand Marshals" - Today, we honor Bryan Ganley, celebrating his 40th anniversary as a Samaritan volunteer. Bryan, along with East Bay resident Melissa Cotta, will be this year's team Grand Marshals. Bryan and Melissa, both touched by loses from suicide, are working to raise awarenss of the need for physical suicide prevention barriers on Rhode Island's bridges over Narragansett Bay. They are dedicated and creative in spreading the message - It's Time Rhode Island! To learn more about their historic efforts, visit: tinyurl.com/ribridgingthegap
Lastly, please remember - we couldn't do our work without your donations and the dedication of our volunteers.
