Every 14 hours someone in Massachusetts dies by suicide.
It often leaves family and loved ones in shock, wondering “Why?” Too many families have suffered this painful loss, but there is hope. Suicide can be prevented. You can help save lives by supporting Samaritans’ Marathon Team today.
Samaritans work is important now more than ever.
Trained volunteers listen day and night offering support to people who are struggling or feeling suicidal on our call or text Helpline. Our Helpline remains open 24/7, and our incredible Helpline volunteers are working remotely to answer the calls and texts from people who are struggling.
Our SafePlace meetings and Survivor to Survivor visits help those who have lost a loved one to suicide deal with the unique grief of a suicide loss. Currently, in an effort to practice social distancing, our team is delivering suicide prevention webinars. Webinars are open to the public, and are offered weekly to the public and by arrangement to schools, businesses and community groups.
Samaritans’ free Suicide Prevention Workshops - in schools, businesses, and community groups - teach teens and adults how to recognize that someone might be suicidal and how to help themselves, a friend, classmate, or co-worker. Currently, in an effort to practice social distancing, our team is delivering suicide prevention webinars. Webinars are open to the public, and are offered weekly to the public and by arrangement to schools, businesses and community groups.
Thanks to the TCS New York City Marathon Charity Program, this is the first year that Samaritans will be participating. All funds raised by our runners will benefit Samaritans' suicide prevention services. To learn more about Samaritans and suicide prevention, visit us at samaritanshope.org.
Although the in-person NYC Marathon has been officially cancelled, runners are still fundraising to support Samaritans' vital services, and have the option to defer their entry to a future year. Please join us in sharing their stoires, supporting their fundrasiers and cheering them on for all their hard work!
