Well 2020 has been quite the year so far and one none of us will ever soon forget. Between Covid 19 and the issues of racial inequality and injustice being brought to the forefront like never before, we continue to have challenges ahead of us in our communities and our country.
As you know, I try to find something to do each year that combines some form of fitness goal combined with raising $$ for a worthy and current cause. Needless to say I wont be doing an organized triathlon or road race this year, but that said the needs in our community are greater than ever.
I’ve been a member of the Board of Directors of the Jimmie Johnson Foundation for the past 4 years. The foundation is dedicated to assisting children, families and communities in need throughout the United States, with a specific focus on funding K-12 public education. We are committed to partnering with schools to help all students achieve their full potential. It has been very rewarding to see first hand how providing resources to students opens the door to opportunities that changes lives.
A very current example, Jay M. Robinson High School in Concord, North Carolina received a $52,000 grant from us in 2017 to purchase 3D printers. In response to the current Covid-19 pandemic, the students wanted to step up and help, they did so by using the 3D printers to make PPE face shields and mask extenders for local healthcare workers. After donating 400, they received an order from Atrium Health for 2,000 more!
As you may know, 2020 is Jimmie’s last year as a full-time NASCAR Cup driver. It has certainly not been the season he had planned but NASCAR is now back racing and the 48 is looking very solid as he makes a run for the play-offs “One Final Time”.
I am fully aware that giving is a very personal thing and the financial impact of Covid has impacted us all, but we are very much the lucky ones. You are one of my main go to people and you have always been very generous with your support of my fundraising, I would love you to consider supporting me again.
I have set a very aggressive goal of raising $48,000 for the Jimmie Johnson Foundation to give back to our communities at this critical time.
I have kicked it off with $10,048 and would love you to join me and help reach this goal.
Thank you for helping me raise $48,000 for 48!
