In 2020, I will be running the Boston Marathon as a part of the Rebekah’s Angels Team! If you told me 5 years ago that this would be my life, I would never have believed you. It feels like just yesterday I was playing left bench on my high school basketball team, futilely waiting for the moment when coach would put me in. But yet here I am, ready to run in this amazing race with an even more amazing team.
Rebekah and her 5-year-old son, Noah, were just 3 feet away from the first bomb that detonated at the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon. While Rebekah’s legs absorbed the force, her son was protected and walked away nearly unscathed. After the trauma and injuries Rebekah suffered from that day, she was left with the decision to amputate her left leg. While her physical injuries were horrific, both her and her son suffered from PTSD, devastating each day of their lives that passed. Despite all of the trauma, both Rebekah and her son were able to overcome it through specialized treatments and bring peace to both the situation and others.
In 2018, Rebekah created Rebekah’s Angels, which is a nonprofit organization that helps to give both children and their families suffering from PTSD a second chance by using an individualized approach through various specialized therapies, such as Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), to treat every case with the utmost consideration.
I just recently met Rebekah this past November at the 2nd Annual ART International Brave B.A.S.H., which stands for Building Advocates for Successful Healing. It is truly remarkable to see someone take such a horrendous situation and turn it into something positive. Thanks to Rebekah, we are getting closer and closer to breaking the stigma of mental health and providing help to those who need it most. For anyone with PTSD or other mental health diagnosis, happiness can feel so far out of reach, but hope and healing is achievable. With the $7,000, I will be able to help her organization provide treatment to children and their families so they too can heal and thrive.
I am so incredibly honored to have been given the opportunity to be a part of the Rebekah's Angels team, and I cannot wait to see what we can achieve together! Be a part of another family’s happiness and donate! Together, we can make the world a better place for both ourselves and the people we share this life with.
Thank you in advance for your support!!!
