Hi, I'm Lexi and I'm the membership coordinator at SAIL LAST and a female junior sailor too! SAIL LAST juniors race keelboats. Even during the pandemic, this season was better than we could imagine! So far in 2020, our roster includes 70% junior sailors and nearly half are girls!
Membership is open to all sailors and always free to juniors.
The SAIL LAST Henderson 30, DOUBLE DOWN, was donated by Paul Hughes and Mike Sowa. Paul raced for the University of Connecticut and Mike sailed for Clemson University. Paul and Mike gave us this fast keelboat to ensure our sailing futures. It's working!
We raced DOUBLE DOWN Around the Buoys in Branford, Connecticut. After weeks of training, members raced the boat safely without coaches. The crew gained valuable experience at the helm and all keelboat positions. We invested over 140 hours running the boat and over 70% of that time was racing!
The DOUBLE DOWN budget is $35,000. The only way our junior sailors can participate for free is through membership dues, charitable contributions of donors like you, and gifts from our priceless partners: New England Ropes, Black Rock Boat Works, Whaly Boats, and Ockam Instruments.
Your valuable contribution all goes to juniors training and racing. DOUBLE DOWN is on the way to South Florida for offshore racing now and returns to New England in the spring of 2021. With your support, we'll operate junior keelboat racing year-round!
All donations go directly to maintaining and racing the boat.
Why should you donate? You know all the benefits racing provided you? You want to donate to save the sport and help juniors!
