Hello! I am a senior at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee as an undergraduate obtaining a bachelors in Global Studies- Security, a certificate in Peace Studies and Conflict Management, and a double minor in French and Painting. I will be traveling to a village in Ghana in May to work with a Non-Profit called SAHA Global that help set up water filtration businesses for the women.
Saha partners with communities that drink from contaminated surface water sources, like rivers or ponds.
Did you know?
HALF of the population of Ghana lacks access to clean drinking water
People are CURRENTLY drinking fecally contaminated water
I will be training community-appointed women to use alum (a flocculant that reduces turbidity) and chlorine (a biocide) to treat the water they collect. Women entrepreneurs will sell the water for a nominal fee to their friends and neighbors. It's a WIN-WIN!
The funds raised will pay for the start-up cost of a village’s new business. Equipment that needs to be purchased are:
large drums that will hold the water during various stages of the process taps chlorine tablets, etc.
We will also be providing each household with a safe storage container that they will use to store the water. Any help is appreciated in making this trip a reality and having a lasting impact on a community's chances for better health
