Let's End Pancreatic Cancer!
As many of you know, my granmother Lois passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2017. Pancreatic cancer is a terrible disease that still only has a 9% survival rate. With your help, Project Purple is supporting research to find a cure.
My goal is to raise $500 for Project Purple by the Lincoln Half-marathon on Sunday, May 5th.
My First Half Marathon!
I started running in September 2017 with a simple goal of finding an enjoyable cardio exercise. I was inspired by my brother, Brock, who has been running for many years - he's always enjoyed running and has made many great friends along the way. I ran my first 5k race in March 2018 and was hooked. I started running 10k races in the summer, but even then, the thought of pushing up to run a half-marathon was not even in my mind. My wife Mandy and I signed up for a 10k race series that starts in March 2019, so committed to a training plan throughout December. It was at that point I realized I could push myself even further. After ramping up to run 46 miles in December, I knew that if I was ever going to attempt a half, this was the year. We've continued training through January, even doing a run-streak where we've run at least 1 mile OUTSIDE every day in January - yes even through 7 inches of SNOW!
When I decided to commit to the Lincoln Half Marathon, I knew that I should do it for a cause, and there was only one cause that made sense. My family has been supporting Project Purple for 4 years now - even before Grandma passed away, but with her passing, it's become especially meaningful to us.
I know putting on that purple singlet on race day will be an extra boost to push me across the finish line. With your help, our donations could be the extra boost to push pancreatic cancer research across the finish line too!

This year pancreatic cancer surpassed breast cancer and became the third leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. It is more important than ever that we continue to work hard towards reversing this trend. Our mission at Project Purple is to find a cure for pancreatic cancer and to improve the lives of patients through support, hope and compassion. The money raised for Project Purple helps us fulfill our mission statement by funding 2 major programs. Project Purple provides funding for critical pancreatic cancer research. Thanks to our donors we are helping fund research for an early detection test for pancreatic cancer. There is currently no form of early detection for this deadly form of cancer. The best odds at survival come when the disease is caught in its earliest stages. We also fund studies which seek effective methods to treat this deadly disease. We also recognize there are patients who are fighting pancreatic cancer right now and they need our help. Project Purple assists current patients through our Patient Financial Aid program. We also provide patients with Blankets of Hope care packages. We believe no one should this battle on their own. Though the five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer stands at just 9%, we know that with your help we can make our vision of a world without pancreatic cancer a reality!
