Ryan is a graduate of the University of Michigan where he played football from 2007-2011. During his career at Michigan, Ryan appeared in 50 games and in which he started 38 games. He was the 2nd defensive captain as selected by teammates and was a two-time strength and conditioning All-American as selected by the NSCA. Ryan was also named National Defensive Player of the Week as well as Honorable Mention All Big-Ten.
After college, Ryan was signed as an undrafted free agent with the Carolina Panthers, but due to an injury sustained in the Sugar Bowl he was forced to walk away from playing professionally.
After football Ryan worked with his business partner Daniel Roth to open Blue Lion Fitness in Ann Arbor which is a public-friendly gym that features group classes with workouts designed to resemble a collegiate strength and conditioning program. Blue Lion has since won multiple awards for being the best fitness facility in the Ann Arbor area.
Ryan has a vested interest in the promotion and growth of the ChadTough Foundation because he was one of the last recruiting classes that was under Lloyd Carr. The Carr family is related to his wife (formerly Kristy Arbour) and Lloyd is indirectly responsible for bringing them together. There is no better charitable cause than to develop awareness, research, treatments, and cures for any disease that impacts children and their families.
