The Musingwa Primary Simple School Project
Imagine....A primary school in rural Zimbabwe with 400 students and inadequate class room block buildings, NO Water, No Electricty, all 10 teachers uncertified, a dangerous playground, inadequate school books and suppies. The school is accessible only in the dry season...a several hours trip over very rough roads from Harare to almost the Mozambique border. Floods and drought make their seasons. Since the school is not certified, it takes an over night trip for students to take the 7th years exams at a certified school - this has proved to be dangerous. The school has a 38% pass rate on these tests (one of the lowest in all of Zimbabwe).
The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International has a pilot Simple School Global Grant process we are vigorously persuring. The total amount needed for this complex project is significant but this will be eased by grant matching and by getting more partners involved. We are currently partnering with World Vision-Zimbabwe, the ministry of education, the Zimbabwe National Water Authority and others.
Your help is needed. We need funding but also need your validation and support. Every dollar donated will be matched by$.50 by the Rotary Foundation.
The benefits are substantial: Water, Electricity, Safe Buildings, A Safe Playground and greatly improved teacher capabilities. This all will help to community to succeed rather than struggling to get by. Additionally, it is our intention to build a model with templates for others in Rotary to use. This could change the game for education in rural Africa.
