Connor's battle with Epilepsy has been nothing short of extraordinary. Diagnosed at the young age of 1 he was having a seizure every 3 mins. We tried medicine after medicine and nothing worked. We were scared, overwhelmed and feeling defeated. Then we were told about this diet, high in fat low in sugar the Ketogentic diet. This is not your ordinary diet, all food would be measured by the gram, carefully planned out by a dietitian considering calories, time of day and supplements it would not be easy but we were up for the challenge. March of 2012 we walked into Children's Mercy hospital having 300 seizures a day, we left 6 days letter having almost ZERO!!! Not only that, Connor was alert, awake and running around. WE FOUND OUR MIRCLE. The next weeks were challenging , breakdown in the grocery store when an item on my list could not be found. The days were long and the nights were longer. But CONNOR was thriving. Fast forward 5 years later we are masters at food prep and an expert of all things keto. Connor continues to show his personality, his teachers using the words like class clown, friend to all and excellent team mate. But as he gets older he becomes more curious wanting food like his sisters and friends . We recently experienced a episode where he talked a friend ( using his dimples I am sure) into buying him a push pop ( this is a big no no) . This one little incident caused his ketones to drop leading to seizures every 3 minutes. Our battle just got harder and it made me realize how important it is to continue and raise awareness around Epilepsy, the diet and new research around treatment that could change the way we handle this disease. We would love for you to run with us on August 25th or consider donating in our quest to find a cure.
