Last Mother’s Day weekend, with the help of Kelly Vigil, we had the inaugural race Run to Believe 5k/10k, on May 12th, 2018 to honor the life of Kristin Nicole Thorsen on her 31st birthday. All proceeds were donated to Every Mother Counts. We look forward to holding the 2nd Annual run on May 11, 2019 – Mother’s Day Weekend, Kristin’s birthday weekend, AND my next attempt at a Sub 4 marathon.
(Information will be sent out via email at the beginning of April to register)
On May 11, 2019, I will be running the Shipyard Maine Marathon with Every Mother Counts to raise money and awareness for a charity and team I am unbelievably thankful to be a part of.
I met Kristin back in 2014 in Grenada on our honeymoon and from day 1, Kristin quickly became one of my most favorite people. I was a better person for having her in my life. After losing Kristin in June 2017 while having similar struggles, Kristin gave me the courage to open up about my own mental health and now, I continue to honor Kristin and spread awareness for Postpartum Depression the best way I know how – through running.
Kristin was an extraordinary mother; her daughter Kayden was the center of her world. She had an infectious personality and spirit that brightened every room. She always put others first and her love, kindness, selflessness, and friendships were admired by all who knew her. She will forever be very much loved, cherished, and most of all, missed.
Maternal mental health issues, such as postpartum depression, is a real issue where 1.3 million mothers in the U.S. are affected each year. These 26.2 will help spread awareness for women to find the help they need with ease. Funds raised will be donated to Every Mother Counts, a non-for-profit organization dedicated to maternal health before, during, and after birth.
Please consider donating to support my journey to my 8th marathon as I attempt to break a 4 hour marathon and run in honor of Kristin. Thank you in advance for all your love and support! #runtobelieveknt
