Hi, my name is Lexi Baker, and I am 16 years old and a sophomore in high school. One of my greatest passions is running, sparked by joining a cross country team in 4th grade. This spring, I will be running my 6th and 7th half marathons: the Run the Bluegrass Half Marathon on March 28 and the Flying Pig Half Marathon on May 3. As I train for these races over the next few weeks/months, I would like to raise money for the Brave Like Gabe Foundation, and I hope that you will join me!
For those who are unfamiliar with the charity, Brave Like Gabe was founded by Gabriele "Gabe" and Justin Grunewald as a way to raise money and awareness for rare cancer research. Gabe, a professional runner, was diagnosed with a type of rare cancer herself in 2009, and she sadly passed away on June 11, 2019. Since then, her husband, Justin, and countless others have worked harder than ever to help those with cancer and to keep her legacy alive. Gabe's story, as well as her strength, bravery, and perseverance, inspire me each and every day, which is why I want to raise money for her foundation. Also, I hope to someday pursue a career as a pediatric oncologist, so helping cancer patients is extremely important to me. Rare cancer research is extremely underfunded, which is why even the smallest contributions can make a big difference. That being said, I would love it if you could join me in supporting this amazing charity over the next few months! My goal is to raise at least $1,000 by May 3, 2020, the day of the Flying Pig Half Marathon. All donations are greatly appreciated, so thank you very much!
