In October of 2012 I registered for my first ever organized run, Chesapeake Humane Society's Bark in the Park 5k. I was immediately interested because I was a new runner and thought I could handle the distance, but even more so, I got to register Onyx and have him do the race with me as well! Sign me up! It ended up being a cool, drizzly morning, but the race went on and we ended up making it in the paper, well Onyx did.
A few days after losing him I saw an ad for an upcoming 5k with the Humane Society happening in May. I knew our run had been in October so I called to see if they'd switched the date. I wanted to run to honor Onyx, but it was really important to me that it be the same race. Someone called me back and confirmed that it was the same race, they had just split the event part of it and the run part of it.
So here we are! I am running this 5k in honor of my sweet pup and in his memory want to raise money for such a great organization that helps animals, many of them strays, like he once was.
