Hello- I am running a rock n roll marathon for Autism awareness. And because of the needs of not only the caretakers involved but to educate the public. I have grown close to a parent of a child with autism. I have witnessed the pain and struggle but also the joys and happiness. I have also seen the helplessness in their eyes when the teacher, the first responders, the bystanders do not understand the an autistic child's behavior .I want to help further educate the public to understand, to enlighten first responders. To give a voice to this small yet growing silent minority. To help schools to, to help parents especially those with financial needs. I want to be a part even if it is a small part, to help one family one child and their future. I have experienced first hand and it took me while to understand the child’s behavior but by the time I did i already had upset the child and the parent. I understood because I remember the parent I have grown close to, and how they had educated me about certain aspects of an autistic child's behavior. That day was second time I saw pain in a parent's eyes. They were not able to tell me or explain it to me. I was left wondering why. May be if there is more education out there in our society or maybe if the growing silent minority were given a greater voice then it might help us as a society understand not only the needs and fears of the caretakers but those individuals on the autism spectrum and then perhaps we will be less judgmental. Thank you for your help.
