In May I will be "Runnin' for Roy" in my second ever half marathon. Roy is my cousin's boyfriend, who is currently fighting his second battle with cancer. I'm hoping to raise money, in his honor, to benefit the organization Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C). SU2C funds scientifically rigorous, patient-focused research to accelerate the development of new treatments for people with cancer. Please read Roy's story below and consider donating. Help us Stand Up to Cancer!!
Roy Coffman, native Californian, age 36.
Roy is a native born Californian living in San Diego with his girlfriend of 15 years, and very cute blind Boston Terrier named Charlie. Back in November of 2016, Roy was diagnosed with brain cancer. Within 1 month of being diagnosed, Roy had brain surgery to remove most of the tumor, followed by radiation and chemotherapy treatment. Since the completion of treatment, he has not had any additional tumor growth. While continuing to monitor his brain cancer, Roy was unfortunately diagnosed with metastatic melanoma in December of 2018. This new diagnosis is completely unrelated to the brain cancer and has spread to his liver, spleen and lung. He has been undergoing treatment to battle this new diagnosis, which will hopefully reduce the progression. Through all of this, Roy continues to have an amazing attitude and positive spirit.
In his off time, Roy enjoys surfing, cycling, the outdoors.....and eating burritos.
