Last year my family participated in "Run for the Regugees" for the first time. It was a very cold February morning- I remember not wanting to leave my warm bed. It took a lot of prodding from my mother to get me and my sister moving. When we arrived at the event we were greeted by many smiling volunteers and soon the gymnasium was packed with a couple thousand people-all there to support IRIS and their efforts to help people that are fleeing a violent homeland. Getting up early and leaving my safe home was a minor inconvenience compared to the struggles of a family fleeing their homes in fear of losing their lives.
The run/walk went by quick-there was live music and signs for inspiration along the route. There were people of all ages and many cultures participating. When I crossed the finish line it felt great, my heart was racing I definitely warmed up and I felt fortunate to have a home to return to.
Please make a small donation to help. For every $5 donation or more I will send a sticker I designed for your support and kindness. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like one. You can view the sticker at: mindbodyspiritart.org
Read on to learn more about IRIS and to sign up for the event. We can run together.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and for making a donation.

Kick off Super Bowl Sunday at the 2018 Run for Refugees on February 4th! Support refugees at our largest annual fundraiser for IRIS (Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services), a refugee resettlement agency in New Haven, CT. IRIS helps refugees and other displaced people establish new lives, regain hope, and contribute to the vitality of Connecticut’s communities.
At our sold out event last year, 2,500 runners enjoyed a scenic 5K & 2K walk/run in East Rock Park in New Haven. The run includes a post-race party with live music, international food, and an awards ceremony celebrating our mission to positively integrate refugees to Connecticut.
