Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we will not be hosting the second annual Run, Walk n Roll 5K this year. We are extremely heartbroken to make this decision, but we know this is the right thing to do to protect our community.
While we aren’t able to gather in person for the 5K, we remain committed to raising funds and awareness for the Pediatric Palliative Care Program at Michigan Medicine C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.
Through our virtual campaign, we invite you to make a gift to Elizabeth’s Courage Fund, which helps palliative care patients and families who are dealing with increased financial and emotional stress.
Palliative care specialists focus on improving the quality of life of patients with chronic and/or terminal diseases. They seek to increase patient comfort by reducing pain and nausea, minimizing hospital stays, and supporting the emotional needs of children and families. We are excited to join with you and raise money to enable more children and families to benefit from this life-changing care.
Elizabeth’s Courage Fund was inspired by Elizabeth Sheeren, a beloved Grosse Pointe South High School graduate, who has been in and out of C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital for the past eight years battling multiple progressive, complex diseases.
Elizabeth’s sister, Claire, established the Run, Walk n Roll 5K in 2019 after seeing the difference palliative care made for her family. The initial event welcomed more than 550 participants and raised more than $46,000 for the Pediatric Palliative Care Program.
This incredible generosity supported several uplifting programs at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. Funds benefited a massage therapy program that helps patients and families cope with the stress of a hospital stay. Proceeds also supported the work of Fawn, a therapy dog who helps to comfort and cheer up families. Another portion of last year’s donations helped nurses and social workers provide interactive games and toys, as well as art and music therapy in the home.
This year, we are looking forward to supporting programs that can make a difference for families going through difficult times. We are especially focused on providing assistance to families challenged by the current COVID-19 pandemic.
We are so thankful for your support. Your generosity impacts so many in our community. Please stay safe, and stay tuned for information on our next event, slated for spring 2021.
