Fabian will use every race leading up to the NYC Marathon to bring awareness to Reach Out and Reads mission: Help us get more books into the hands of children in the New York City area who need them. Reach Out and Read of Greater New York (ROR GNY) works with pediatricians and healthcare providers to provide culturally- and age-appropriate books to children at every well-visit from birth to age 5. The organization also advises parents and provides guidance on the importance of reading together with their kids every day. The first five years of life offer a critical window for learning, with rapid brain development that does not occur at any other time. Children who grow up without sufficient exposure to language arrive at school without basic literacy skills, and often struggle with reading in early grades. RNR GNY is a proven intervention that reaches more than 275,000 children in the greater New York region. The program model is supported by 16 independent, published research studies.
