I cannot say I grew up in a military family, although both grandfathers served, one in the Navy and the other in the Army, but my support was always there. That support became even stronger in 2006, when I began dating my now husband, who at the time was serving in the Marines with a deployment to Iraq set for September 2006. He is now serving in the Massachusetts Army National Guard as an E7. His brother, also enlisted, joined the Army and was stationed in Germany in between tours to Iraq. Their cousin also enlisted in the Army a few years prior to them and did several tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan. To say they came home unscathed from the War, would be wrong to say even though there is nothing physically wrong that you can see. These invisible wounds need to be discussed and need to be treated. Unfortunately, we experienced firsthand what it is like for a soldier to finally lose their inner battle. In 2014 we lost my husband's cousin to these invisible wounds. So that is why I choose to run in the Run to Home Base- I Run for my military family, the Wilsons.
