I do not have a personal story connecting me to Yemen's current plight, but I am a firm believer that we do not have to be intricately connected to a cause to want to help. For those who are unfamiliar with what is happening, the Yemeni people are facing a huge humanitarian crisis right now. In addition to COVID-19, they are in the midst of a civil war and are facing a potential famine. While learning about it myself, I started thinking about what I can do as only one person to help provide aid. Unsurprisingly, my mind went to running. This sport means more to me than anyone will ever know, and I am privileged to be able to use it as a channel to donate to the International Rescue Committee in support of Yemen.
Here's the plan: for every $20 that is donated in the next week, I commit to run 1 mile. Depending on the amount that is raised (to avoid a risk of injury) I plan to complete the mileage within 1-4 weeks. I will document my progress to show to those interested in proof!
