I am running the San Francisco MARATHON... *gasp... yes a marathon and not just to run but to run for the people of Kenya. The exciting part is that you can run with me, not physically (deep breath of relief) but through prayer and financial support.
I am running to help raise funds to support the APU DPT Class of 2018 Medical Mission Team as they prepare to serve at the Living Room International in Kenya.
Those of you who know me, know that God has given me the opportunity to visit Kenya twice. Once in 2015 as a part of an APU Doctor of Physical Therapy Medical Mission Team and second in 2017 as a co-leader of a group of 6 APU DPT PT students. I am sure those of you who know me have heard some of the stories I had to share about how God is moving in Kenya and how he is providing for those who struggle with medical and health needs.
Even though I will not be going this year, I am ecstatic to share that 2 of my friends, Stephanie King and Juliana Cooper, who I went to Kenya with in 2015 are returning to the Living Room International with a group of 6 APU DPT students.
What is The Living Room? The Living Room International is an extension of God's healing hand by caring for those who were suffering from pain and symptoms associated with dying. Living Room was birthed from the cries which were heeded from countless patients lying in anguish under the shades of trees; from mothers who were helplessly watching their children writhe in needless pain; from health professionals who lacked training and access to essential analgesics. Through the small but essential act of listening, Living Room saw a tremendous need to work with the community to bring hospice and palliative care services to the small Kenyan village of Chebaiywa. This is where Kimbilio Hospice began – one of only two in-patient hospices in the country of Kenya, serving a population of 44 million people.
